Gemstone Custody

Vaults, Coffers & Capsules

A layered custody design for security, clarity, and traceability. Vaults safeguard collections, Coffers organize containers, and Capsules hold individual gemstones with location-aware global IDs and immutable movement logs.

At a Glance
  • Vaults safeguard entire collections.
  • Coffers group and secure Capsules.
  • Capsules hold one gemstone.
  • Master IDs for gemstones.
  • Immutable Logs for capsule and coffer movement.

Vaults

Highest custody layer. Vaults safeguard collections and enforce organizational and security controls across all contained Coffers and Capsules.

  • Houses multiple Coffers
  • Defines security policies and access
  • Optional movement logs if Coffers relocate between Vaults

Browse Vaults

Coffers

Secure containers (boxes, chests) that group Capsules within a Vault. Each Coffer has a unique, permanent ID.

  • Permanent Coffer ID (never changes)
  • Immutable Coffer Movement Log if relocated between Vaults
  • Searchable and indexable for rapid retrieval

Browse Coffers

Capsules

Each Capsule holds a single gemstone and carries a location-aware, globally unique Capsule ID for foolproof labeling and tracking.

  • Global Capsule ID encodes location + identity
  • Dynamic updates when location changes
  • Immutable Capsule Movement Log on every change

Gemstones: Immutable Identity

Every gemstone has a purely unique, immutable Master ID that never changes. This master record ties together origin, appraisal, certification, images, and provenance.

  • Master ID distinct from Capsule ID
  • Master record is the root of trust
  • Compatible with digital twins / NFTs later

Searchable Attributes

All gemstone attributes are fully indexed and searchable (type, weight, color/clarity, appraisal number/value, certification, custody history, and more).

  • Fast discovery by attribute or ID
  • Secondary indexes for scale (e.g., type, FMV)
  • Fits arbitrage and curation workflows

Global Capsule ID Convention

Capsule IDs are globally unique and location-aware. A suggested convention:

GF.V<vaultCode>.C<cofferCode>.X<capsuleSerial>
  • V<vaultCode>: Vault identifier (immutable)
  • C<cofferCode>: Coffer ID (immutable)
  • X<capsuleSerial>: Capsule serial (changes if location changes)

Immutable Movement Logs

Every relocation is recorded immutably with timestamps and authorizations:

  • Capsule Movement Log: old Capsule ID → new Capsule ID, previous & new location, time, authorized by, reason.
  • Coffer Movement Log: Vault A → Vault B, coffer ID (permanent), time, authorized by, reason.
  • Cryptographically signed events for auditability.

Result: a tamper-evident custody trail that ties Capsule history to the gemstone’s immutable Master ID.
